DURGAPUR

The  city which is mostly known for the Durgapur Steel Plant .It is the second planned city  after Chandigarh planned by two American architects Joseph Allen Stein and Benjamin Polk and falls under the district of Paschim Burdwan . With an area of 154.20km2 this city has a population of 580,990.Durgapur is also  famous for the only operational dry inland port in Eastern India.A lush green environment although being a planned city is what demarcates Durgapur.The most common places to visit in Durgapur are the Junction Shopping Complex located in the City Center where we can find almost every goods starting from dress and accessories to a variety of books .This shopping mall also includes parlours and tattoo shops to cater to the interest of varieties of people .Durgapur has other shopping complexes such as the Big Bazaar, More, Reliance Trends etc. Sports have always been the main source of interest for Durgapur Bashis (People living in Durgapur ) thus we have stadiums like Durgapur Nehru stadium,Shahid Bhagat Singh Kridangan and Sidhu Kanu Indoor Stadium where several sports facilities are present.  Durgapuralso focuses on giving quality primary education to the students and thus has more than 25 schools including  boards such as CBSE,ICSE and WESTBENGAL BOARDS.Some of the wellknown schools in West Bengal like the Hem Sheela Model School, ST.Xaviers School,Carmel Convent High School,St,Peters ,T.N.High School,Bidhan Chandra Institution are present here.Apart from that this is the best place where you can get the best of Nature and picnic spots such as near the Durgapur Barage,Huchuk Danga ,Anand Amusement Park etc. Also famous for its historical importance it has a forest known as “Garh Jungle” .The ashram of Medas muni was established here and thus this place has special importance specially for the Shakt Culture. Festivals like Durgapuja,RathYatra,Christmas,ID-ul-Fitr and ID-ul-Joha  ,Kalipuja and  RathYatra are celebrated with great pomp and grandeur here.
