“Blooming flowers are the depiction of one’s happiness.”
Delhi University organizes a Flower Festival every year towards the end of winter in Mughal Gardens, North Campus of the University to showcase various plants and their arrangements.
Mughal Gardens is opened for visitors for short period of time around this time.
This year the 59th Annual Flower festival commenced on 23rd Feb’17 between 12 noon and 5 p.m. The entries to the fest were free to all students and visitors. Apart from the showcase of the plants, various competitions were organized for different colleges.
At this time various indigenous and exotic species of potted plants are displayed for exhibition for students and visitors from different colleges all over Delhi-NCR region. Some of the competitions included this year are:

On spot Photography
Best Gardeners
Best Horticulturists
This year, the on-spot photography was held for the very first time and all the competitions were open to all colleges.
The theme for this competition was ‘Flower and Emotion’. The first and the second prize for the on-spot photography competition was bagged by the contestants from the Photography Society ‘Shuffleshots’ of Shaheed Rajguru College of Applied Sciences For Women, Vasundhara Enclave, New Delhi (Delhi University). The third position for the garden arrangement competition was also bagged by the same college.
Apart from these fun events, many other breathtaking attractions were the part of this festival. This year the University focused on orchids, cacti, succulents, and herbal plants. Ranging from the beautiful musical fountain to the mesmerizing Rashtrapati Bhawan, the sight was nothing less than a paradise. Many varieties of plants ranging from species of roses to the air purifying plants as rated by NASA were displayed. Vertical Garden arrangement to circular garden arrangement was also part of the highlights.
The aura of the place boosted new excitement and enthusiasm among the visitors. Since it was such a scenic beauty, naturally the place contained many photography suited sites both for people (selfies and other pictures) and nature. The place was so vast and the central area was a sight must watch.
The beauty of the mesmerizing Indian National Flag on top of Rashtrapati Bhawan is way out of the league to be explained. Not only local visitors but many foreign visitors enjoyed the blooming flower show.
Such events not only provide us with knowledge but give a sudden shift to the daily routine and acts as a much-needed breather to both students and other working-on working people.
The fest was a huge success with many students and visitors participating and enjoying the scenic beauty of the place.
