Self – motivation : A Necessity

Many people go through life, never getting in touch with their greatness because of lack of motivation to push themselves.

People who are unable to motivate themselves must be content with mediocrity; no matter how impressive are their other talents.

-Andrew Carnegie

Feeling less than motivated all too often? I do. Well not too often but yes, sometimes I really feel lazy and unmotivated.

Many of us find ourselves in motivational slumps that we have to work to get out of. If you want to excel in life, all you need to know is how to get self – motivated. You need to keep up your spirits high, no matter how discouraging the situation is. That’s the only way you get the power to overcome difficulties. Those who are discouraged in difficult times are certain to lose even before the battle is over.

Many a talented persons have gone unnoticed and the world never had a chance to be exposed to their talent because that person did not take the time to begin to motivate themselves in the direction to bring that which they came to the universe to bring.

Now, the question is: How do you motivate yourself?

Here are some tips I’ve found to be effective in self-motivation.

  1. Have a cause.

The only thing I can think about is to have a cause to get motivated. Such cause can inspire you to give your best even in the face of difficulties. While other causes could inspire you temporarily, a cause that matters to you can inspire you indefinitely. It’s a spring of motivation that will never die.

  1. Have a big dream.

Your cause is a powerful source of information but it’s still abstract in nature. You need to make it concrete in the form of a dream. Having a dream is important because it’s too difficult to be motivated if you don’t have anything to shoot for. Just think about a team playing basketball. Will they be motivated if there is no basket to aim for? They need a goal. You need a goal. Your dream must be able to inspire you. It must stretch your ability beyond your comfort zone.

  1. Let go off the past.

Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could.

Ralph Waldo Emerson

Believe it or not, it is the past that demotivates you the most. Your past can drag you down before you realize it. You might disappoint others with what you did. But that’s over. It’s already in the past and you can do nothing about it. No matter how bad your past might be you still have a bright future waiting ahead for you. Don’t let the past bother you.

  1. Take one more step

When you meet obstacles along the way, there could be a tendency to quit. You may think that it’s too difficult to move on. You may think that your dream is impossible to achieve. But this is where you can see the difference between winners and losers. Though both of them face the same difficulties, there is one thing that makes the winners different: the courage to continue. Just focus on taking the next step.

These steps will help you to get self-motivated. Apply these tips and get self-motivated.

Let your self-motivation take you to excellence.
