a. Active components

(These components require a source of energy to perform its function i.e these components can control flow electricity.)

Example:

1.Transistors

2.Oscillators

3.Integrated circuits

b. Passive components

(These components won’t require a source of energy to perform its function i.e these components can not control the flow of electricity.)

Example:

1.Resistor

2.capacitors

3.Diodes

Passives components are two types

Linear components

(The response of the electric signal will be linear)

Example: Resistors, Capacitors

Non-linear components

(The response of the electrical signal will be non-linear)

Example: Diodes
